Ghosn gets a second chance at Renault

Carlos-GhosnOften called as the "samurai" of the car industry, the "cost killer", and the "icebreaker", if the reappointment of Carlos Ghosn as the CEO of Renault looks more like a formality, one should looks at the challenges that are no less daunting.

The appointment of Ghosn as the CEO for another four years at Renault is set to be public at the French car group's annual meeting on Friday afternoon.

One cannot deny the facts that while Ghosn has been able revive Nissan from its problems; his stint with Renault hasn't been that fruitful a journey as it was with the Japanese automaker.

It may be noted here that Renault made a whopping net loss of €3.13bn ($4.1bn). Moreover, rather than the promised boost in sales, the unit sales fell badly for Renault in 2009. And if this is not enough, the operating margins were minus 1.2% over the past calendar year.

However, a lot of chaos out of it was created by the global crisis but still reviving Renault's future is still one of biggest task in front of Ghosn today.
