Germany releases former terrorist Christian Klar

Christian KlarKarlsruhe, Germany - Christian Klar, 56, a former leader of the Red Army Faction urban terrorist movement in Germany in the 1970s and 1980s, was released from jail Friday, his lawyer said.

Klar, who was a co-leader of the "second generation" of the so-called Baader-Meinhof Gang, was granted parole by judges several weeks ago after he had spent 26 years in jail.

His actual release from Bruchsal Prison in southwestern Germany was delayed until he had served out the minimum term by the turn of the year. Only one other member of the group is still in custody. (dpa)
