Hanoi - The Vietnamese Communist Party has suspended an official accused of taking hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes from a Japanese company while in charge of Ho Chi Minh City's largest infrastructure project, a party official said Friday.
The accused official, Huynh Ngoc Si, had already been relieved in late November from his government posts as director of Ho Chi Minh City's East-West Highway Project and deputy director of the city's Department of Transportation.
On Thursday, Si was suspended from his Communist Party posts as well.
Vienna- The price for oil produced by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) jumped by 2.18 dollars Thursday, as the cartel's president Chakib Khelil called for a "drastic" cut of oil production at its upcoming meeting.
One barrel (159 litres) of OPEC-produced crude stood at 40.12 dollars Thursday, the Vienna-based organization said Friday.
Oil prices were also boosted by the news that Saudi Arabia was producing several hundreds of thousands of barrels per day of crude less than estimated, Vienna-based consultants JBC Energy said.

New Delhi, Dec. 12 : The Union Sports Minister M S Gill has sent a strong message across the border by saying that Indian cricket team should not tour Pakistan in the wake of Mumbai terror attack.
Gill said that it is not the right time to play cricket with Pakistan when "people from their soil were indulging in mass murder in India".
"Is it possible for one team to arrive in Mumbai and indulge in mass murder, and have another team go and play cricket in the winter afternoon sun at Lahore, immediately after," he asked while addressing the media today .
Following a similar move by Jet Airways, Vijay Mallya-controlled Kingfisher Airlines announced that it would pay a 3 percent commission on the total ticket price to travel agents.
A Kingfisher spokesman stated that the commission would come into effect from Friday (Dec 12).
The spokesperson also said that Kingfisher has also backed away its transaction charge on tickets, which was introduced following the abolishment of a 5% commission to travel agents on October 31.
Washington, Dec 12 : Physicists at the MIT have built a calibration tool that will aid in the search for dark matter, by revealing when hypothetical particles are detected.
Several research projects are underway to try to detect particles that may make up the mysterious “dark matter”, believed to dominate the universe’s mass.
But the existing detectors have a problem.
They also pick up particles of ordinary matter - hurtling neutrons that masquerade as the elusive dark-matter particles the instruments are designed to find.
