London, Dec 22 : Director Danny Boyle wouldn''t have imagined that the experience of shooting for ''Slumdog Millionaire'' in Mumbai would entirely change his opinion about India, and revamp his style of working.

Looking at the noisy, colourful, fantastically energetic crowd and extremes of emotions, Boyle decided that the only way to do justice to a story set in Mumbai was to make it operatic.

"It''s not the way I''ve ever worked before," the Telegraph quoted him as saying

"Mumbai is such a city of extremes. Obviously, there are very rich and very poor people almost literally rubbing shoulders.

ELV launches India’s first satellite built for a foreign customer

On 21st December, a European launch vehicle released into space, India's first satellite built for a foreign customer, a 3,460kg communications capsule that is the heaviest so far from the Indian Space Research Organization.

The W2M satellite was placed into orbit by the Ariane 5 launch vehicle. The W2M is developed to provide radio, television, cable and data services across Europe, North Africa and West Asia, and just after 32 minutes after lift-off from a spaceport in French Guiana at
4.05am Indian time, it started of with its work.

French court clears two ‘Les Miserables’ sequel novels

London, Dec 22: A French court has cleared two modern-day sequels to Victor Hugo''s classic book Les Miserables, insisting that they do not constitute a threat to the integrity of the original novel.

In 2001, Hugo's great, great grandson Pierre had filed a lawsuit against novelist Francois Ceresa, who wrote the two sequels using the characters and style of Les Miserables.

He demanded 685,000 euros in damages from Ceresa, and sought to ban the two books.

However, the court ruled in favour of Ceresa, and said that the Hugo's novel was in the public domain, meaning Ceresa was therefore free to invent a sequel.

Archaeologists find 277 bronze artifacts in Peru

Lima (Peru), Dec 22 : An archaeological research has led to the discovery of 277 bronze artifacts at the Archaeological Park of Sacsayhuaman located on the outskirts of Cusco in Peru.

According to the news agency agencia peruana de noticias, the artifacts were found by skilled workers and professional staff of Peru's National Institute of Culture in Cusco
(INC).
