Gulf of Maine identified as new breeding ground for endangered whales

Washington, Jan 5 : A team of scientists has claimed to have identified the Gulf of Maine in the US as a wintering ground and potentially a new breeding ground for a group of endangered whales.

Researchers at NOAA's Northeast Fisheries Science Center have identified this new breeding ground, after reports that a large number of North Atlantic right whales have been seen in the Gulf of Maine in recent days.

The NEFSC's aerial survey team saw 44 individual right whales on December 3rd in the Jordan Basin area, located about 70 miles south of Bar Harbor, Maine.

Weather permitting, the team regularly surveys the waters from Maine to Long Island and offshore 150 miles to the Hague Line (the U. S.-Canadian border), an area about

British Jaguar sedans recalled in China

Beijing, Jan. 5 : British luxury saloon maker Jaguar will recall 87 sedans in China after receiving complaints of warning system flaws.

China''s quality supervisor claimed on Sunday that speakers on the Jaguar XF units often fail to voice warnings like signals indicating turns and seat belt conditions.

According to a report in Xinhua, the company has decided to recall a total of 3,754 XF units worldwide for the same problem.

The recall in China will start from today and involve vehicles produced between October 2007 and March 2008, said the GAQSIQ.

It said Jaguar dealers would check the car speakers'' function and make reconfiguration.

New York, January 5: An autism activist says that John Travolta's chronically ill son Jett's death, who is believed to have died after hitting his head on a bathtub following a seizure, could have been avoided had his Scientology practising parents decided not to follow their religion''''s anti-medicine theories.

Sixteen-year-old Jett was speculated to have been suffering from autism, a brain development disorder that impairs social interaction and communication, and also produces restricted and repetitive behaviour.

The activist said that the health problems of the teenager, who began suffering from seizures at the age of two, could have been better treated with medicines.

London, Jan 5 : A team of Scottish scientists has developed mobile phones that can tell you where your friends are or can warn you if it is going to rain.

Professor Roderick Murray-Smith of the University of Glasgow is working for Nokia on the point-and-find software.

Murray-Smith has already created prototypes of the `magic wand' phones, and he predicts they will be on the shelves by end of this year.

As far as the using the new technology is concerned, users will simply have to wave the mobile phone in the air to get information about the world around them, as the next generation of phones adopt the technology of the Nintendo Wii to make them easier to use than ever.
