‘e-INDIA 2008’ conference to begin today

Newe-INDIA 2008 Delhi, July 29: Minister of State for Human Resource Development (Higher Education), D. Purandeswari will inaugurate the ‘e-INDIA 2008’0020 (digital learning) conference and exhibition here today.

The three-day conference is being organised by Centre for Science Development and Media Studies (CSDMS).

The first day will have four sessions, the highlight of which will be the inauguration by the Minister and the opening plenary which will be on Leading Change in e-Education: How to Succeed Amid Endless Challenge.

Centre sets new target of enrollment ratio in higher, technical education

Technology IndiaNew Delhi, July 23 : Union Minister for Human Resource and Development, Arjun Singh today said that the Centre Government has increased the target of enrolment ratio to16 in the higher and technical education for the current five year plan.

Inaugurating the conference of States Ministers for Higher and Technical Education here, he said that this is five percent more than the present ratio.

The Minister also called for sustained efforts and full cooperation at both central and state level to achieve the objective.

Philippine education minister backs mobile phone ban in schools

Manila - The Philippines' education minister Monday expressed support for a proposed law totally banning mobile telephones in schools nationwide. 

Education Secretary Jesli Lapus said a total ban on mobile phones would help students concentrate more on their studies. 

"We favour the total ban of cellular phones in schools," he said. "It distracts students, especially as they are inclined to play games using their cellular phones." 

Lapus said many schools in the Philippines already banned the use of mobile phones inside classrooms, but they still allowed students to bring the gadgets inside campuses.

Washington, July 19 : An increasing number of women with an MBA are opting out of the workforce to be stay-at-home moms, according to a new study.
