Free Online TV Service Temporarily Given Go-Ahead Signal By BBC

Free Online TV Service Temporarily Given Go-Ahead Signal By BBCProject Canvas has been given go-ahead by BBC trust, which is a temporary decision. The project Canvas is joint venture between the BBC, ITV, Channel Four, Five TalkTalk and BT and is a video-on-demand program. The program provides free-to-air broadcasts and Internet content on-television. BBC Trust came to this decision after reviewing several complaints from other broadcasters.

The proposed project between these groups will see a set-top box which can be completely accessible to access on-demand television services. The expected cost of the set-top box, which could be available in markets next year, is about 200 pounds. It is also good news for website users who frequently use sites like Facebook, YouTube and Flickr. These websites can be accessed through television and E-mails can be posted if users add a keyboard to their television sets.

According to Ian Maude, head of internet at Enders Analysis, the project can have less influence on television market unless the equipment cost is reduced to less than £50. Mr Maude said, though BBC Trust has approved the proposal, the Office of Fair Trading will be scrutinizing further.
