Sydney, Dec 23 : Australian Test selectors are under heavy pressure to justify their sudden axing of spinner Jason Krejza after just one match for Nathan Hauritz.

There has been widespread support for selectors continuing with out-of-form Matthew Hayden and Brett Lee, but Krejza's dumping had former Australia Test spinners deeply concerned.

They condemned the "spin cycle" policy of constant rotation of Australian tweakers since the retirement of Shane Warne two years ago, FOX Sports reported.

"Jason was able to do what only four people in history have done, and that was take 12 wickets on debut," said Greg Matthews. "How do you turn around and give him the flick after that? Go figure."

Chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch said Krejza, who took 1-204 in Perth, had leaked too many runs, which made it difficult for Australia to maintain pressure on South African batsmen.

Spin mentor Terry Jenner - the man who developed Shane Warne's bowling - said he would have dropped Siddle for Doug Bollinger before he showed Krejza the door.

Jenner, however, said Hauritz now needed to be retained for both Melbourne and Sydney to show he can be our long-term spinner.

"He's got his chance now so give him the chance. Nathan has to play in Melbourne and Sydney. They can't bring in another spinner for Sydney. If they did that, what chance has any spinner got? ," Jenner said.

Kerry O'Keeffe said he was a fan of Hauritz, who "has the best and most consistent trajectory of all the finger spinners."

Stuart MacGill was another Hauritz fan and urged selectors to stop "chopping and changing their minds every five minutes." (ANI)
