Five killed in road accident in southern Philippines
Manila - Five people were killed and 13 injured when a cargo truck carrying freshly harvested rice collided with a motorcycle in the southern Philippines, police said Tuesday.
The truck was on its way to sell the rice in President Roxas town in North Cotabato province, 930 kilometres south of Manila, when the accident occurred on Monday.
Senior Inspector Sosana Gumiling, town police chief, said the truck slammed into the motorcycle, which was traveling on the opposite lane.
Gumiling said the truck driver lost control of the vehicle when the brakes malfunctioned.
Most of the victims were aboard the cargo truck, including the five fatalities. The drivers of the truck and the motorcycle were among the injured. (dpa)
