FedEx swings to fourth quarter profit

FedExPackage delivery company, FedEx posted a fourth quarter profit. However, looking at the current situation, the company showed conservative outlook for the whole year.

It said that it is going to rely more on the international sales. This area is the one that led to the growth in the last three months of the fourth quarter.

The company reported a profit of $419 million during this period. For the same period last year it saw a loss of $876 million. During this period, net income was $1.18 billion as against $98 million last year.

Revenue became $9.43 billion, which is 20 per cent higher than last year. For every share, it earned $1.33, as against the forecast that showed it to be $1.17 and $1.37. Last year, it lost $2.82 per share.

FedEx also announced a plan of spending $3.2 billion in 2011 to increase its involvement with the international business, the most profit making unit.

Post the results, the share price of the company fell by 5.95 per cent. It said that it expects its earnings to be between $4.40 and $5 for the financial year. It said that it is a good enough figure.
