Fathers Who Share Childcare Duties Enjoy Better Love Life: Study

Researchers in a recently conducted study have revealed that if both the partners share childcare duties, they enjoy a better love life and live a healthier marriage, rather than only one parent taking care of the child.

Sociologists, for their study, studied more than 900 married couples and found that those who split the childcare equally had better and more frequent sex. Not only this, the study researchers also noted that such couples also had a happier marriage overall.

As per the study researchers, when women were mostly or wholly responsible for childcare, where they took more than 60% of the responsibility, the quality of the relationship and satisfaction with sex tended to be lower, for both husband and wife.

Researcher Daniel Carlson from Georgia State University in the US said in a statement that involvement of a father in taking care of a child with one’s partner is important for both the sexes.

A man taking on nearly the entire childcare burden seemed to set the stage for problems in the bedroom. In such situations, the frequency of the sex remained same, and wives remained happy with their sex lives but men were found not satisfied, he said.

Mr Carlson presented his findings at the American Sociological Association's annual meeting held in Chicago.

Furthermore, he said that the study was limited as it included only heterosexual couples and did not examine who fed or bathed the child, which has traditionally been seen as a mother's responsibility.

Mr Carlson said that some further research will be needed to look deeper into the reasons why couples who shared childcare got on better together.
