Expedia’s Corporate Headquarters to move to Seattle

Online travel company Expedia is going to move its corporate headquarters from Bellevue, Washington, to Seattle. On Thursday, the company announced the move at a conference with Mayor of Seattle Ed Murray.

While announcing the new move, officials of the company said that it has planned to purchase a 40-acre waterfront campus from Amgen. They further stated that it was a hard decision to leave Bellevue. The headquarters of Expedia has more than 3,000 employees.

The online travel company was started in 1996 and has over 10,000 employees worldwide. The company has many brands, including Hotels.com and Hotwire.com. According to the company’s announcement on Thursday, it will purchase Amgen Inc.’s offices for about $229 million.

The Online travel company also stated that it has planned to move into the Amgen property by 2018. The site also includes restaurants and a fitness facility. In October last year, Amgen stated that it has planned to lay off more than 250 workers in Seattle. In the region, the company has 660 workers. The company also announced to leave Washington State by the end of 2015. The remaining workers of the company will be laid off by the end of this year, as per reports.

Amgen stated that it has planned to shut down its Onyx Pharmaceuticals subsidiary in South San Francisco and leave the company’s building, while some of the employees moving to Amgen’s headquarters campus in Thousand Oaks.

Earlier, the company bought popular travel sites, including Hotwire.com, Hotels.com and its namesake Expedia.com. The company also announced in January that it will buy competitor Travelocity.com for $280 million.

According to the reports, the purchase of the Amgen property is expected to close in the second quarter.
