ENTERTAINMENT BRIEFS: Judge drops Lindsay Lohan arrest warrant

Judge drops Lindsay Lohan arrest warrant Los Angeles - A Beverly Hills judge on Monday quashed a warrant for the arrest of Lindsay Lohan after the actress' attorney provided proof that the star has been compliant with her alcohol education classes, People. com reported.

"The warrant is quashed and set aside," Judge Marsha Revel said. "I've seen additional proof ... that Lohan has been compliant with (her) programme. There is no indication of dirty (drug) tests." The judge also ordered that Lohan show new proof of enrollment by April 3.

The ruling came after the court issued a 50,000 arrest warrant for Lohan on Friday - a move that her lawyer characterized as a misunderstanding.

"This was all much to do about nothing," Lohan's attorney Shawn Chapman Holley said following the hearing Monday. "(Lohan) has satisfied all the conditions of her probation, and I have every expectation that she'll successfully complete those terms."

MacGyver heading for big screen

Los Angeles (dpa) - Better start stocking up on your sticky tape and paper clips - the man who could get out of any fix using ordinary household items is heading to the big screen, according to The Hollywood Reporter on Monday.

New Line Studio picked up the rights to the MacGyver TV series, which ran in the US from 1985 to 1992, starring Richard Dean Anderson as a resourceful secret agent who escapes from impossible situations using everyday items.

Series creator Lee Zlotoff is involved in the big screen reprise but there's no word on whether Angerson will be making a comeback. New Line is optimistic that the MacGyver franchise can yield a series of movies. "We think we're a stick of chewing gum, a paper clip and an A-list writer away from a global franchise," said New Line's Richard Brener.

Steve Martin to fund banned play

Los Angeles (dpa) - American comic and satirist Steve Martin is to fund a performance of his play Picasso At The Lapin Agile after it was banned at an Oregon high school because of "adult content."

The 1993 play portrays a fictitious meeting in a bar between Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso, during which they discuss the merits of art and science. But its performance at La Grande High School in Oregon was banned last week after the head teacher received a petition signed by 127 people objecting to its staging in a bar.

In a letter to the local La Grande Observer newspaper, Martin said he was prepared to fund an off-campus performance because he did not want his play "acquiring a reputation it does not deserve".

"The play has been performed, without incident, all over the world by professional and amateur companies, including many high schools," said Martin. He wrote that, contrary to the protests, the play was not about "people drinking in bars and treating women as sex objects."

Top model melee sparks concerns

New York (dpa) - A weekend melee among thousands of aspiring models at a casting call for the hit TV show America's Next Top Model sparked a mixture of concern and recriminations Monday.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg blamed the show's producers for the incident because they didn't provide enough security. Presenter Tyra Banks and producer Ken Mok said the incident was still under investigation. "We are concerned by the events. We still don't know all the details of what triggered the incident," they said.

An amateur video of the incident showed thousands of people crammed onto the pavement outside a New York hotel where pandemonium broke loose and the crowds surged over police barriers. Unconfirmed reports said that the incident involved a man charging into the crowd in an attempt to steal handbags. (dpa)
