Employers confident enough to hire more in 2010

JobseekersThe jobseekers finally got some relieving news after the global financial crisis. A recent report by the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry showed that the employer confidence reached at its highest levels since March 2008. The Hudson report on employment expectations also showed that businesses expect to hire more in the coming quarter.

According to the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry's April Survey of Investor Confidence, the index of the expected number of full time employees was reported to reach at 52.4 in the quarter ended March this year. The index was reported up by 0.9 percentage points compared to the figures for the quarter ended December 2009.

The figures were reported at the highest levels since the quarter ended March 2008 and also well ahead of the five year average of 51.1. The index of the expected unemployment rate was reported down to 55.7 from 61.2 recorded in the quarter ended December 2009.

Also, the quarterly survey of employment expectations by the consultancy firm Hudson revealed that the employer confidence grew in the quarter. The survey showed that 31.5% employers plan to increase their permanent staff levels in the coming quarter.
