Drona: Hopeless Mixture Of Fantasy And Superhero Concept
Drona with all its action, fantasy, star cast and computer generated graphics couldn’t create much impression on the audience. The story is very predictable. The screenplay is not convincing.
This movie is the story of fostered child, young charming lad Aditya (Abhishek Bachchan). He lives in Europe with a churlish aunt and her annoying son. There comes a diabolic necromancer Riz Raizada (Kay Kay Menon) whose predecessors are Asuras. Riz is deep in pursuit of a valuable secret – Amrit. He has to defeat Drona to get it. Sonia (Priyanka Chopra) plays the role of bodyguard of Drona. She saves him from Riz’s men. Sonia also makes Aditya realize about his true identity. Aditya meets his biological mother, Queen Jayanthi Devi (Jaya Bachchan) at the palace of his birthplace. But, before he could take on stand and realize how hard the situation is, Riz and his men have trapped him. Then the roller-coaster thriller ride of DRONA on the venture of defeating the evil entities begins.
There are many flaws in the movie. The movie makers have hopelessly tried to combine concept of superhero with fantasy. Abhishek Bachchan’s performance is ok in the movie while Priyanka’s performance goes insubstantial at certain points. Jaya Bachchan steals the show throughout her scenes. Kay Kay Menon and Navneet Nishan are great disappointments.
Cinematography by VFX is wonderful. Cinematographer Samir Arya has done wonders in chasing and train sequence. Music by Dhruv Ghanekar is a disaster. The scenes where Kay Kay Menon transforms Jaya Bachchan into statue or when he pulls in Priyanka Chopra into racing yacht are wonderful.
Jaydeep Sarkar, Rohini Killough and Godlie have written a lengthy tangling story. The story can be easily guessed from starting to ending. The main flaw in the story is that no attempt was made to add depth to the characters or think up innovative plot movements. It seems that all the concepts from hit movies have been mixed and presented in one movie.
