Dr. Desai’s corruption issue received an offensive attitude from global medical fraternity

Dr. Ketan DesaiThe World Medical Association has also call for an emergency executive council meeting on the Dr. Desai's case as he is the president-elect of the World Medical Association. The demand for terminating Dr. Ketan Desai as MCI President and removing his name from the Indian Medical Register is derived with great pull as he has been found guilty.

In the beginning of this month, medical fraternity has launched a nationwide movement with the name of 'Remedy MCI' whose main motive is to oppose the amendments proposed by Dr. Desai for supporting MNC pharmaceutical giants. This movement has made its own union of 20,000 doctors from all over the country which is led by Dr Pankaj Singhal and Dr Paras Gangwal from New Delhi and Dr Vineet Garg from Ajmer.

'Remedy MCI' campaign has a main goal of removing Desai's name from the Indian Medical Register permanently if charges proved to be true or till the CBI inquiry is completed. MCI claimed that they have initiated a campaign influencing doctors to refuse cash, gifts, or hospitality from drug companies before Dr. Desai's arrest.

Dr. Singhal said that the campaign is focusing on dissolution of MCI and want to put into action a seven member panel. We have to depend upon the government for taking action against MCI which we expected to be done by independent bodies like IMA which are formed for the doctors, by the doctors and are of the doctors. The campaign has also received assistance from the global medical fraternity who feels that Desai has also cheated them and demanded a turnaround of all decisions taken by him at MCI, as said by Dr. Singhal. On the other hand, Dr. Gopal Raju Samaram Indian Medical Association (IMA) president opposed the campaign proposal of dissolution of MCI and found it highly unacceptable.
