Downtown Los Angeles has New Parking Signs

On Friday, Los Angeles city officials revealed new color-coded parking signs for downtown. According to the officials, the new parking signs will make it easier for people to read the city's posted parking regulations. The parking signs could also help in reducing the number of tickets received by confused motorists.

According to reports, the new style parking sign is a pilot program that has been unveiled by Mayor Garcetti. Containing a grid-pattern, the new red and green-colored signs are intended to be more understandable than the Los Angeles city's current stock of signs.

The new parking signs show the days of the week horizontally on the top, while hours are listed vertically. As per the city officials, about 100 parking signs will go up in downtown. Downtown is an area with one the most complex parking restrictions in the city. If the pilot program will be successful, similar signs will be installed throughout the city, according to the city officials.

Parking signs were problem for drivers from a long time. The city's parking signs angered drivers, who leave a parking space unsure if they have interpreted the posted hours. While talking about the problem, Downtown resident Nathan Poole said that he has been ticketed when he wrongly parked in a restricted spot.

While unveiling the new parking signs, mayor Garcetti said that now, there will be fewer parking tickets. Paul Krekorian, City Councilman who was part of effort for new signs, said it is a new day for parking in the city.

Krekorian said, "Our constituents get very frustrated, and they have a right to get frustrated, when they struggle to find a parking space, they think they're parked legally, and it turns out they get an expensive ticket anyway".
