Earwax is a water-soluble mixture of secretions. It is found in the outer third of the ear canal. It lubricates the ear canal besides performing cleaning and antibacterial actions in human beings.
The guidelines will be published in the September issue of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
The jaw movement causes excessive release of ear wax which in tern performs cleaning actions of ears. However, impacted earwax should not take lightly as it causes symptoms such as pain, itching, ringing (tinnitus) and hearing loss. People who use hearing aids should also undergo regular checkup in 6 to 12 months for routine cleaning.
