DigiTimes: Foxconn plans to set up factories in US
A new DigiTimes report - underscoring what apparently is the latest rumor about the Chinese Apple devices assembler Foxconn - has revealed that Foxconn is apparently planning to set up factories in the US.
According to the report, citing the information shared by `market watchers', China-based contract electronics manufacturer Foxconn is currently evaluating a few US cities - including Detroit and Los Angeles - for at least one potential site for its plant.
The unidentified `market watchers' sourcing the DigiTimes report also disclosed that Foxconn's US plant will seemingly be used for manufacturing LCD TVs, given the fact that the production process of these TVs can be largely automated; thereby implying that fewer actual workers are needed.
The DigiTimes report about Foxconn's plans is somewhat substantiated by a recent statement that Foxconn chairman Terry Guo made at a public event where he said that Foxconn has plans underway to launch a training program for engineers based in the US.
Revealing that Foxconn is presently in talks with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for the training program, Guo said that the "students" undergoing the training will be brought over to China or Taiwan.
Guo further added that the "students" will be taught how to communicate in Chinese and will gain first-hand experience in the production process; to finally return to the US with "training that can be helpful."
