Diane Abbott asks for enquiry in health policy

Diane Abbott asks for enquiry in health policy Diane Abbott, the shadow public health minister has recently demanded an enquiry on government moves to put McDonald's, PepsiCo and food manufacturers such as Unilever and Kellogg's to the health select committee.

It is to be mentioned here that Abbott has asked for an enquiry on the grounds of the writing policy on obesity, diet-related disease and alcohol misuse in the UK.

She said that she was very much shocked with the revelations in the Guardian that the Andrew Lansley, has set up five networks dominated by the food, alcohol and retail industries with a view to bag responsibility deals among business and government to fight with the crises of public health.

Moreover, she added that she is also writing to the select committee asking it to investigate.

It may be noted here that the leading public health experts joined Abbott in expressing deep concern about the government's strategy of inviting industry to be a part of the measures on public health rather than moving ahead with the mandatory action on the same. It is expected that it will face more criticism in the coming days.
