Dhahiri opens anti-cyber crimes conference
Abu Dhabi, 15th Dec. 2008 -- Minister of Justice Dr. Hadef Al Dhahiri admitted today that the breakneck progress in the information technology was matched by a similar advance in the criminal mindset.
''Despite the substantial benefits of the IT, the criminal mindset was harried to use the computer to commit all forms of crimes from killing, forgery, fraud to temptation and debauchery, the minister said in a keynote address at the second international anti-cyber crimes conference opened here today.
The event was organised by the Institute for Judicial Training and Studies in association with Abu Dhabi Police, Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) and Microsoft Corporation.
The minister indicated that the UAE had issued Federal Law No. (2) of 2006 concerning the combating of Information Technology Crimes.
''The reality we live today under breakthrough IT revolution call on us to make tremendous efforts to support research and keep abreast of modern sciences,''he added.
He called for making optimum use of the scientific revolution so as to avoid its potential risks and innovate creative solutions for e-crimes.
''Generally, computers and IT have provided huge potentials in the areas of peace and building but, at the same time, have shown dangerous forces when use for destruction, sabotage and crime,''he added.
He also outlined the mixed use of modern technology in all walks of civilian and military life. (WAM/TF)
