Delhi BJP accuses Congress of having nexus with discoms & DERC
Delhi BJP President Vijay Goel has blamed Congress government alleged nexus with power discoms and the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) for the high tariffs in the national capital, and reiterated that BJP would break the nexus and bring down the tariffs in case it was elected to power.
Goel claimed that breaking the nexus would immediately bring down tariffs by 30 per cent and stressed that BJP was committed to do that. He also accused Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit of patronizing the unholy nexus.
He also expressed surprise on regulator DERC's recent decision to provide relief to VIP areas under the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).
The power regulator has agreed reduce tariffs for NDMC areas by 1 per cent, based on power purchase-cost adjustment charges.
Goel said the Delhi government would increase the power tariffs immediately after the upcoming polls.
Speaking on the topic, Goel said, "After DERC's stamp of approval, the tariffs will be definitely hiked immediately after the polls. So, BJP will oppose this move of DERC."
DERC will soon hold a public hearing with all the stake holders, including the discoms, to discuss power tariffs for domestic consumers.
