Datawind to offer Aakash 3 at Rs. 2500
UK's technology firm, Datawind has said that it is ready to offer an upgraded version of Aakash 2 for a possible price of Rs. 2500 for supply of ten lakh devices.
The company recently announced that it has successfully completed the Aakash 2 project with the delivery of 1 lakh Aakash low-cost tablets to IIT-Bombay. The company said in a statement that Akash, which is the world's lowest cost computing access device, has been delivered to the educational institution with a one year warranty on the devices at Rs 2,263.
Datawind said that the competitive tablets are also available in the open market with a price tag of Rs. 5000. Datawind CEO Suneet Singh Tuli claimed that the company completed the supply of the tablets one month in advance. He said that the company supplied the entire order in May while the deadline was 6 June, 2013.
The Aakash 2 tablet features multi-touch projective capacitive touch screen. It runs on Google's Android 4.0 operating system and is powered by a Cortex A8-1Ghz processor and contain 512 MB RAM. It has a flash memory of 4GB, which can be expanded up to 32GB through its micro-SD card slot. It has inbuilt support for external 3G and EVDO dongles allowing users to connect to the internet easily.
