Cruel twist of fate shatters families in Mumbai

IndiaNew Delhi  - Grief stricken Mumbai'kers cannot believe the cruel twist of fate that snatched their beloved relatives in seconds right before their eyes.

Istrael Ansari had gone to the city's Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station on Wednesday night to see off members of his family when the terrorists struck.

Ansari had gone to get a bottle of water from a nearby shop when terrorists sprayed bullets killing all of his family members within minutes.

"Six people from my family have died, one of them is my brother," an inconsolable Ansari told the NDTV network.

Arvind Chatterjee was also at the wrong place at the wrong time.

He and his family were moving back to the eastern metropolis of Kolkata when his mother fell to gunmens' bullets.

Twenty-five year old Boris Rego, a trainee chef at the Taj Hotel was in communication with his brother before being killed by the attackers.

Rego called his brother Kevin with frantic cries for help even as a battle raged in the background between forces and terrorists who had laid siege to the hotel.

"His last call came at 2.30 pm Thursday. There was commotion in the background," Kevin Rego told the IANS news agency.

"Boris had joined the Taj for experience. He always wanted to join a cruise-liner. That was his dream," Kevin Rego said. (dpa)
