Guwahati, Dec 15: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has said that it would oppose a proposed anti-terror law if it contains draconian clauses.

"If the government takes any appropriate step against terrorism then we will support you. But if you think of bringing a new terror law like The Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) to deal terrorism, we will not support such terror law," said Prakash Karat, General Secretary of CPI (M).

On Saturday, Union Law Minister Hansraj Bhardwaj had told a meeting of jurists that the government planned to bring in an anti-terror law to tackle terrorism effectively.

Besides a tough law, more spies and police, modern gadgets and a national investigation agency are among a slew of measures India is taking to prevent militant attacks like the one on Mumbai last month.

India''s security agencies have long been criticised for lacking a cohesive counter-terrorism plan and poor intelligence gathering and analysis. (ANI)
