CPI (M) condemns government for 2G spectrum allocation policy
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has raised objections over spectrum allocation policy of the UPA government. The party wants enquiry into the 2G spectrum allocation by the union telecom ministry. CPI alleged that spectrum is allotted at very lower prices than the prevailing market prices causing loss of about Rs. 60,000 crore to the national exchequer.
The ministry, however, said that 2G licenses were priced at 2001 levels to keep the cost low for the consumers. CPI, on the other hand, said that the companies are not bounded to offer services at low rates as it is not mentioned in the license terms and conditions. They are, instead, selling the license at high profit while country is suffering huge losses of over Rs 60,000 crore. The party described it as a biggest ever financial scam in the history of the country.
Polit Bureau expressed shock over decision of the communication ministry to allot 2G spectrum on first come first serve basis. It also condemns the union government for failing to take action against Unitech and Swan, who sold the license to other companies by making huge profit.
