Court Hearing On Sept 30; Related To Supply Of Gas From RIL
Today’s evening will witness the crucial court hearing related to the gas delivery from RIL’s prolific Krishna-Godavari asset, for which Mr. Mukesh D. Ambani, Reliance Industries Ltd’s chief, had been eagerly waiting for.
Yesterday, Mr Ambani held meetings with top officials of the Finance and Petroleum Ministries, where they were clarified by Mr Ambani about the issues related to the industry, which also included the grant of tax benefits for the fuel sold from RIL’s Jamnagar refinery in the domestic market. The meeting was called as a courtesy call by Mr R.S. Pandey, Petroleum Secretary.
With the aim to get control on sale of gas from D6 fields lifted, the Govt. is seeking to become party to the case going on between Anil and Mukesh Ambani- the two Ambani brothers.
“We did not discuss the case. He did not talk about it,” reported Mr Pandey, when he was questioned that whether the legal disputes were discussed during this meeting.
The final decision of the court will decide the gas sales from RIL’s D6 Block. There is one more issue that is left unresolved, which is that did NTPC’s gas contract with RIL was concluded or not? It was however confirmed by Government counsel at the Bombay High Court during the earlier hearing on the gas dispute between RIL and Anil Ambani’s RNRL, that there has been no conclusion on the contract between RIL and NTPC. Following this, a serious controversy took birth, after which an explanation from the counsel was demanded by the Petroleum Ministry.
