‘CoD: Black Ops 2’ generates $500 million in first 24 hours of initial launch

‘CoD: Black Ops 2’ generates $500 million in first 24 hours of initial launchIn a confirmation of the overwhelming response which has been witnessed by the `Call of Duty: Black Ops 2' title, Activision has recently revealed that the highly-awaited game has generated an astounding $500 million in the first
24 hours of its initial launch.

Thanks to the newly-released title's notably strong early sales, the staggering amount raked in by CoD: Black Ops in the first 24 hours surpassed the $220 million earnings generated by another much-anticipated title, Microsoft's Halo 4, within 24 hours after its recent release.

Noting that Black Ops 2 generated "first day sales of over half a billion dollars worldwide," Activision CEO Bobby Kotick said in a statement: "We believe Call of Duty is the biggest entertainment launch of the year for the fourth year in a row."

Kotick further added that the CoD's series `life-to-date sales' have even beaten the "worldwide theatrical box office receipts for 'Harry Potter' and 'Star Wars'," which are considered two of the biggest blockbuster movie franchises of all time.

Pointing that the stupendous success which Call of Duty titles have always been witnessing is more a result of the fact that CoD is "a brand" rather than just a game, Eric Hirshberg - chief executive of Activision Publishing - said that, in November every year, Activision kicks off what can be described as "an annual, unofficial but worldwide phenomenon called the Call of Duty season."
