CII-LM Thapar Centre for Competitiveness for SMEs organizes Balanced Scorecard

Confederation of Indian IndustryWith the concern to the financial Crisis in the global economy and the quake in Human skills recruitment and utility of Organizations, CII - LM Thapar Centre for Competitiveness for SMEs organized a One Day Workshop on "Executive Programme on Metrics and Balanced Scorecard" at CII (Confederation of Indian Industry), Gurgaon on 15th November. A total of 43 delegates from Top Managerial profiles of various sectors - Service, Manufacturing, IT and Finance reaped benefits out of the highly productive workshop.

The workshop focused on the importance of Balanced Scorecard, which is defined as a strategic planning and management system to measure performance in relation to the Organization Vision and Goals. The workshop laid stress upon the strategies, which if implemented by the industries and organization shall lead to measurement of gaps that existed between performance and desired goals

Mr. Harinder Jeet Singh, Head - CII LM Thapar Centre for Competitiveness for SMEs, informed about the basic aim behind conducting the workshop, "The basic aim of today's workshop was to make aware the companies of the gaps which exist in terms of the HR Practices and to align the overall objective of an organization with the departmental objectives."

He further added, "The Participants today are going to learn the best practices for the Balanced Scorecard which they are going to apply in their organization to achieve and to know the overall result and to know whether they are matching with the overall objective of the organization."

The workshop was facilitated by Mr. S Deenadayalan, faculty of CII LM - Thapar Centre for Competitiveness for SMEs and Co-facilitated by Mr. Surinder Pal Singh, Deputy Manager - HR, Dr. Reddy's, in association with CII.

Mr. S Deenadayalan explained the importance of the Balanced Scorecard as, "Basically the Balanced Scorecard helps the organization to maintain the internal processes, the financial perspectives, the customers and employees."

Mr. Surinder Pal Singh further added to it, "It is a methodology by which you can involve everyone in an organization." He also explained the basic aim behind organizing the workshop, "Everyone through this workshop will come to know as to what they are contributing to the organization strategy by the four perspectives of balanced scorecards."

When asked as to when they think the global economy would come back to its normal level, Mr. Surinder Pal Singh said, "No one can specify the timeline but it depends upon the different government initiatives and different organizations contributing to it. Whenever there is a downfall, there are certain companies which come up and certain economies that boom. India should take it as an opportunity to implement new strategies to come up."

Mr. Deenadayalan explained, "This Challenge which we are facing is not as deadly which we faced in 1930's or 40's and I personally feel that as countries, India and China are better off. As far as time is concerned, I think within two years, we would get over it."

The workshop altogether proved to be whole new learning experience for the participants, who were deeply engrossed in the whole environment. They were quite enthusiastic and wanted to know how the strategies were going to be implemented at their workplace.

Ms Kavita Ahlawat from Orient Craft explained her experience as quite refreshing. "I got to interact with lot of other people from various sectors. One positive point is that the session was kept quite interactive," she said.

Another participant, Henry Moses, Head-Market and Sales Strategy, Amadeus Limited, said, "It looks quite professional and there are lots of eye openers. Whatever we would learn here; we would implement it in our organization."

When asked as to what all problems has his organization being facing in such crisis, Moses said, "I am working for aviation industry. Directly or indirectly we have been affected adversely and this session has given a lot of strategies, which we were not implementing earlier."

Mr. Harinder Jeet Singh informed that CII LM - Thapar Centre for Competitiveness for SMEs is further organizing forthcoming event which is Power quality and reliability in New Delhi on 21st and 22nd November.
