Chitika: iOS 6 already downloaded on 15% of iPhones and other iOS devicesAccording to recent statistics shared by ad and tracking firm Chitika, Apple's Wednesday-released updated iOS 6 operating system - one of the most noteworthy features of the iPhone 5 - has already been downloaded on 15 percent of iPhones and other iOS devices.

Apple made its updated iOS 6 version available to millions of eligible iDevice users on Wednesday, September 19, a week after the company unveiled the eagerly-awaited iPhone 5 at a September 12 press event.

Though the updated iOS 6 - now available for iPhone 3GS or higher, and all iPad versions - had been released to developers for months, it was actually finished only about a week back when Apple applied the final update to it.

With the Chitika figures showing that, within barely 24 hours of availability, the iOS 6 accounted for 15 percent of iOS traffic to sites monitored by the firm, it is evident that users are being prompted to download the newest iOS version because of the fact that it is an effortless procedure and all two-year-old or so devices are eligible.

Noting that the iOS 6 uptake is much quicker than that witnessed by the newer versions of the Android probably because new Android versions need to be vetted and tweaked by carriers, Chitika said in another article that the most recent Android OS version 4.1 `Jelly Bean' - which has been available for two months now - can be found on only about 1.5 percent of Android-based devices.
