Chinese premier meets with North Korean counterpart for talks

Chinese premier meets with North Korean counterpart for talks Beijing  - Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Wednesday met with his North Korean counterpart Kim Yong Il, as China was expressing concern over announced North Korean missile tests for April.

China said on Tuesday it was concerned over the "complicated situation" on the Korean peninsula.

Chinese leaders were expected to press his country to resume dialogue on ending its nuclear weapons programme.

Kim's visit is his first to China since taking office in April 2007. His is also to meet Chinese President Hu Jintao during his five-day visit, Qin said.

The trip follows North Korea's announcement that it plans to launch a communications satellite in early April, amid international concern that the plan is really a cover for a test of an intercontinental ballistic missile. (dpa)
