China aims to put stop online Porn by closing 1250 websitesWith the aim to put a stop on all online pornography in the country, China has closed down 1,250 Web sites in its latest crackdown. However the country still is struggling hard to regulate the unwieldy Internet for vulgar content.

It was confirmed by Liu Zhengrong, deputy director of the Cabinet's Internet Affairs Bureau that 41 people have been arrested by the authorities in the month-long campaign that began January 5.

Liu added, "We have made apparent achievements but it's only for this phase. We still have a lot of work to do."

Google, Baidu, Sina and Sohu, the China's most used websites were extended a warning earlier this month that they had to do more to block pornographic material from reaching Chinese users.

It should be noted here that accessing porn on internet is strictly prohibited in China, so this move comes as a part of a continuing government campaign against using the Internet to access pornography.

Liu concluded, "However, it remains widely available off and on the Internet, where popular Web portals frequently show sexually explicit pictures and provide links to pornographic sites." He said that the authorities are trying their best to put a stop to it
