London  - Chelsea's appeal against the red card shown to Frank Lampard in their defeat to Liverpool as been successful, it was announced on Tuesday.

The midfielder was sent off an hour into the game on Sunday for a lunge on Xabi Alonso, although he seemed to take the ball first.

Lampard is now eligible to play, but Chelsea will still feel a sense of grievance given they were drawing at the time of his dismissal and went on to lose 2-0. dpa
