Center recalls four Satyam directors
The Union government, following the nod of the Company's Law Board (CLB), has decided to recall four Satyam's nominated directors - namely, the HDFC chairman Deepak Parekh; former Nasscom chief Kiran Karnik; CII's chief mentor Tarun Das; and LIC's Suryakant Balkrishna Mainak - to the board of erstwhile Satyam Computer Services.
The CLB directed the government to retain two members, including former Sebi member C Achutan and former president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India
(ICAI), T N Manoharan, on the board for next three years.
The CLB said: "Now that the central government has itself opted to have only two directors as nominees of the CLB on the board, I allow the application with liberty to the central government to withdraw four of the six directors appointed... at its choice."
The central government, six months back, had appointed six eminent professionals to the board of Satyam, currently known as Satyam Mahindra, in a bid to save the scam-hit company. The firm came into limelight following the disclosure of largest ever corporate auditing fraud committed by its founder chief, B Rama Linga Raju, and others top brass of the company.
