Campbell asks parents to think hard about letting young daughters model
Washington, Sep 20 : Naomi Campbell has protested against child models by urging parents to decide whether their children are satisfactorily prepared to enter the fashion industry.
The British supermodel is backing the campaign to ban young models at London Fashion week.
The 37-year-old called for parents’ intervention by citing her own example.
Naomi revealed that she was approached for modelling when she was 15, but was only allowed by her mother to begin working in the fashion industry shortly before turning 18.
"My mother said no initially and understandably so. But a month before my 18th birthday she said, 'Okay, you can go and do this shoot,’” Contactmusic quoted her, as saying.
However, Campbell insists that the new guidelines should only be put into effect on a case-to-case basis.
“If your child is healthy and buxom and you think that she's able then it's really up to the parent. But I understand why these rules have been enforced,” she said. (With inputs from ANI)
