Cable & Wireless Worldwide reports pretax loss of £94 million
Cable & Wireless Worldwide Plc has released its first results today as an independent company. The company said that it had reported a pretax loss of £94 million for the year ended March 31, 2010. However the overall cash profits grew by around 32% for the full year.
Cable & Wireless Worldwide said that EBITDA for the full year was reported of £431 million, increasing by 32% while it was reported of £326.5 million in the previous fiscal. Pretax profits before exceptional items were reported of £116 million for the fiscal 2010, while it was reported of £11 million in the previous corresponding period.
But pretax loss for the full year was reported of £94 million, while it was reported of £65 million in the previous corresponding period. The full year results were heavily affected by the exceptional charges of £210 million, mostly for the demerger and pension obligation. Total revenue for the year was reported of £2.265 billion, compared to £2.268 billion in previous fiscal.
However, the company said that the results in the fiscal 2010 built a strong platform for growth and it is quite optimistic for the coming years.
"Market conditions are improving and we are experiencing good momentum in our core business segments and key areas of future growth, both in the UK and globally," said Jim Marsh, chief executive of Cable & Wireless Worldwide.
