Bronze in Asia Cup won by India’s eves
On Sunday, a bronze medal was won by the Indian junior women's hockey team in the fifth under-21 Women Junior Asia Cup, held in Malaysia. It has now qualified for the next year's Junior World Cup.
The junior eves won over Japan, 3-1 in the bronze medal play-off match and thus booked their ticket for the U-21 World Cup to be held at Boston, USA from August 3 to 16 next year.
In the first half, from an indirect penalty corner, Soundarya Yendala drew first blood for India and then Vandana Katariya doubled the lead from a field goal after the breather.
Anuradha Devi hammered the final nail in the Japan's coffin with a beauty of a field goal, although Japan reduced the margin soon from a penalty corner. An Indian Women's Hockey Federation (IWHF) release said, "She has dodged 3-4 defenders and at last in one to one situation after beating goal keepe, she scored the third goal to confirm the victory over Japan."
