British astronaut personally addresses Queen in a video message live from ISS
British astronaut Tim Peake has delivered a ‘God save the Queen’ message to the monarch directly from space. Peake has personally addressed the Queen in footage live from the International Space Station (ISS) after the Queen sent her own well-wishes to him.
Major Peake was launched into space previous month, and he has thanked the Queen in the minute-long video, saying he hoped his journey would serve as a symbol of ‘international collaboration’ and would be helpful in making the world a better place.
Concluding his message, the ‘humbled’ astronaut said something that was according to him the first ever ‘God save the Queen’ uttered from space.
Maj Peake, while floating ahead of a camera with a microphone said, “I'm truly honored to receive Your Majesty's message, inspired by its wording, and humbled to be able to represent UK and Europe on board ISS. I can tell you it's incredible to be able to look at British Isles for first time from space”.
The astronaut added that the islands and his country are very special for him. He mentioned that he was hopeful that the coming six months reveal to everybody across the UK and Europe how international partnership and brave endeavor can alter the world for the better.
Peake thanked the Queen for her well wishes, and was hopeful that would bring the country together to celebrate Britain in space and their grand tradition of scientific exploration.
Before signing off, he also mentioned that he wasn’t sure about whether ‘God save the Queen’ has been said every before in the space or not.
