British airports close due to ash cloud
Officials have informed that volcanic ash clouds temporarily closed Britain's and Europe's busiest airport, Heathrow, as authorities created a no-fly zone.
The BBC has reported that the Civil Aviation Authority imposed the no-fly zone on Heathrow, Gatwick and London City airports from 1 a. m. local time to at least 7 a. m. Monday.
Planes also were grounded in parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland by the volcanic ash from Iceland, the report said.
The BBC also said that airports in Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds Bradford in the north of England were lifted, after flights were suspended there Sunday.
It was further reported that in Iceland, the Eyjafjallajokull volcano has been spewing ash since April, leading to thousands of flights being delayed or canceled. (With Inputs from Agencies)
