Bollywood lends blitz to drive against human trafficking
New Delhi, Oct 11 : Bollywood stars joined a UN sponsored campaign against drugs and human trafficking.
John Abraham and Amisha Patel led a pack of Bollywood celebrities in trying to reach out to youth, regarded as the most vulnerable of age groups.
"If I could reach out to the youth to address this cause, then I think, we have come a long way. If I am right, we have 150,000 human trafficking cases every year," Abraham said.
Sponsors United Nation Office on Drug and Crime (UNODC) has launched several initiatives with the support of government, police officials and voluntary organisations against human trafficking.
The concern for human trafficking has increased tremendously over the years with over 150,000 persons trafficked every year in South Asia alone.
The industry continues to thrive as long as criminals benefit from high profit margins and relentless demand.
Human trafficking affects virtually every region of the world and U.N. estimates say the trade could be worth some 32 billion dollars if both "sales" of individuals and the value of their exploited labour are taken into account. (ANI)
