BMW aiming for the leadership slot with 5-SeriesThere is no denying to the fact that the fight in the Indian luxury car segment has recently entered into the next lap in the Indian market with BMW rolling out its highest-selling model-the spruced up 5 Series-from Chennai plant.

In fact, it is believed that the company is targeting leadership slot in the Indian luxury car segment running on the back of the mid-level premium sedan in the luxury segment.

As the model is priced between Rs 38.9 lakh and Rs 58 lakh (ex-showroom), it is expected that the new 5 Series will bring improved numbers to the door of the German luxury car maker.

It is to be mentioned here that BMW had earlier dethroned Mercedes to become the largest seller of luxury cars with 3,941 units for the year ended March'10.

However, BMW lost the top slot to Mercedes in the last quarter after the 5 Series went out of production early this year. Juergen Eder, MD (production), BMW, said that the new model will help the company to reach at the leadership position once again. The company has sold over 3,700 units of the 5 Series sedans in India since 2007.
