BHP Billiton reports 11% growth in iron ore production for third quarterBHP Billiton Ltd, the biggest resources company in the world, released today its third quarter production report. The miner said that it had reported a growth of 11% in its iron ore production in the third quarter.

The company also said that current quarter production was impacted by weather related disruptions and project tie-in activities at Western Australia Iron Ore.

BHP Billiton said in its production report that the iron ore production for the third quarter ended March 2010 was reported of 31.164 million tons, increasing by 11% comparing to the same period last year. The iron ore production was reported up by 5% comparing to the previous quarter ended December 2009.

For the first nine months of the year ended March 2010, BHP reported iron ore production of 93.72 million tons, while it was reported of 87.37 million tons in the same period last year. The company said that the growth in iron ore production was mainly attributable to the successful delivery of growth projects.

BHP Billiton also said that total petroleum production in the quarter was reported of 36.84 million barrels of oil equivalent, increasing by 16% comparing to the same quarter last year.

The petroleum production in the first nine months of the year was reported of 116.41 million barrels of oil equivalent, increasing by 17% comparing to the previous corresponding period.

However, copper production in the third quarter was reported of 229100 tons, decreasing by 19% comparing to the previous corresponding period.
