Aviation firms to create 100 more jobs

Aviation firms to create 100 more jobsAccording to reports, aviation firms are expected to create around 100 new jobs in Victoria, giving a boost to the local economy.

Qantas and Jetstar are expanding their training facility at Airport West, near Melbourne and Essendon airports. The government of Victoria has worked with the airlines to bring the new jobs to the state. It said that it will not disclose the amount of money that will be given to the airlines for the expansion of their facilities and the creation of new jobs.

Qantas and Jetstar have said that they will spend around $100 million on equipment and jobs in Victoria. The expansion comes after the airline group sacked hundreds of staff members including engineers at its Tullamarine and Avalon service centres in the previous year.

Premier Denis Napthine announced the new jobs while speaking from the Qantas training centre in Airport West on Tuesday morning along with Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce. He only said that the public money for the expansion project would be modest but did not disclose how much public funding would be given to the airlines.

Dr Napthine said, "Having the training base here, having the servicing here, is just fantastic news for Melbourne and Victoria. It will create 100 jobs, and these are highly skilled jobs. ... These are secure jobs and these are jobs for the next century."
