Sydney  - A fall on Wall Street buffeted Australian stocks Tuesday, taking the bellwether index down 3.5 per cent.

The ASX 200 gave up 146 points, or 3.5 per cent, to 4,319.83.

The Australian dollar was buying 67 US cents. (dpa)
