Yes, the eco-friendly Bamboo Series Notebook from Asus Technology (India) certainly is a very significant innovation in Green Computing! Asus has unveiled its eco-friendly U6V Bamboo Series Notebook in India.

Asus has claimed that the U6V Bamboo Series Notebook is end-to-end eco-friendly, designed purely from bamboo, keeping up with the standards of green computing. The notebook is end-to-end green, from conception, production to recycling and disposal. The notebook abides by RoHS and WEEE Standard, well actually the notebook surpasses these standards.

Asus has possibly become the first company to use bamboo casing for notebooks. The U6V notebook, featuring bamboo case, weighs about 1.57 kg. It is an elegant notebook that is excellent example of marvelous craftsmanship.

Commenting on the U6V Bamboo Series Notebook, Stanley Wu, Country Manager for Notebook business, ASUS India, said, "The launch of Bamboo Series Notebook will usher in a new era of green computing. It will mark a paradigm shift in the way computers are used and manufactured. With the ever increasing concern over global warming and the ecological imbalance, we find it necessary to innovate products that are not only eco-friendly but also commercially viable."

The U6V Bamboo Notebook is equipped with the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P8600, with the Intel PM45 Mobile chipset. The notebook offers up to 4GB DDR2 800MHz memory and up to 320GB SATA 5400RPM storage. The notebook features Nvidia GeForce 9300M GS graphics chip having 16 stream processors with a core clocked at
400MHz. Having 256MB video memory clocked at 600MHz, the 9300M graphics chip uses the 64-bit memory interface. The chip also has a TAG RAM of up to 1536MB.

The U6V Bamboo Notebook is powered by a 6 cell + 3 cell battery, featuring Super Hybrid Engine, capable of extending the battery life, from 35% to 70%. The notebook features an in-built 1.3 megapixel webcam, a LED light, and the Asus SmartLogon feature.

Asus has stated that the U6V Bamboo Notebook will be available through Rashi Peripherals, with remarkably high price tag of Rs. 1,10,000. The notebook will be available 2 years of global warranty and 1 year of battery warranty. Asus, however, hasn't yet said anything about if it will require any special coating for saving the bamboo casing from termite attacks or for saving the wood from expanding during monsoon season.
