Apple’s Philip Schiller confirms that iPad Mini’s speakers are “stereo”
In its announcement of the iPad Mini tablet earlier this month, Apple did not make any official confirmation about the audio of the device, despite the fact that the rumors which have been circulating of late hint at the tablet having dual speakers.
With Apple refraining from letting out any details on whether the iPad Mini had single or stereo speakers, the ambiguity about the tablet's audio increased further when the Apple website simply listed that the device has a built-in speaker.
The confusion went a step further when Amazon launched an advertising campaign, making a comparison between its Kindle Fire HD tablet and the iPad Mini, and highlighted the audio advantage of the Kindle Fire HD by listing that the Apple tablet has a "mono speaker."
However, the iPad Mini speaker mystery was recently solved by Apple's VP of Worldwide Marketing Philip Schiller, who said - in an emailed response to 9to5Mac reader Alex's question about whether the tablet's speakers are "mono or stereo" - that the speaker of the smaller tablet is "stereo."
Soon after Schiller's affirmation of the iPad Mini's "stereo" speaker, the Kindle Fire HD versus iPad Mini comparison chart was removed by Amazon from its homepage. However, a search for `iPad Mini' on Google stills leads to Amazon's pulled homepage which lists the Apple tablet as having a "single speaker"!
