AOL Mail Allows Mail, Messenger Users To Send Free IM, SMSes

America Online (AOL), which commenced Indian operations sometime back, America Onlinehas once again woo its Indian users by rolling out AOL Messenger services or AOL Mail, in the market.
 
The newly launched service will allow Indian mail and messenger users to send free instant messages and SMSes to mobile phones. The recipients will also be able to respond to those messages at once.

AOL Messenger services are available on the majority of telecom networks, which includes Airtel, Vodafone, Spice, Aircel and MTNL (Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited).
 
Mr. PG Ponnapa, VP and General Manager, AOL Interactive Media India said, “The mobile market in India has outpaced the Internet market in terms of growth rate. We feel that our suite of services will help bridge the divide between the growing mobile market and the Internet market in India.”
 
AOL messenger is one or the most popular IM (Instant Messenger) with a world-wide user base of 67 million. AOL was also the first portal to start an IM services named AIM.

AOL had recently announced the AOL Open Mobile Platform, which it plans to make available to developers this summer.

The new open platform will help stimulate innovation by providing developers with ready access to the tools and source code they need to build and distribute applications across all major mobile device platforms and operating systems, including BREW, Java, Linux, RIM, Symbian, and Windows Mobile.
