Analgesic Consumption during Pregnancy can lead to Infertility in Baby Boys
Pregnant women need to make sure that they do not pop many pain-relieving medicines as an increased dosage can result in male babies facing fertility problems later on in life. If women happen to consume a high amount of analgesics like aspirin or paracetamol, specifically from the fourth to the sixth month of pregnancy it can result in baby boys suffering from cryptorchidhism, which also means undescended testicles.
The study was conducted by a team of researchers from Denmark, whose results were a little surprising, as in the research both Finnish and Danish women had taken part, however, only Danish babies reported the condition, while those from Finland did not report any such conditions. However, the results among Danish women were backed by a similar study conducted on rats, which showed that an intake of paracetamol can reduce the production of testosterone among male rats.
In the report, researchers have stated that the situation was a cause of worry as the incidence rate of reproductive disorders among men had escalated over the past few years.
It was also stated by scientists involved in the study that the use of analgesics, especially during the second half of pregnancy could further heighten the chances of baby boys suffering from cryptorchidism. The report will appear in the publication, Human Reproduction.
