Al-Qaeda terrorist killed, woman injured in Mosul
Baghdad - A member of the al-Qaeda terrorist network was killed and an Iraqi woman was injured in separate attacks in Mosul, US forces and media reports said Saturday.
In a statement, the US military said forces had uncovered an al- Qaeda hideout near Biaj, some 130 kilometres south-east of the northern city of Mosul, 400 kilometres north of Baghdad.
The location contained "a dozen of bedrolls, stockpiled food, men's clothing and signs that it was a terrorist hideout," said the statement.
US forces shot dead a man who had refused orders to surrender.
Meanwhile, US forces detained 15 suspected terrorists around Mosul on Friday and Saturday, the statement said.
Separately, Khalid Abdul-Sattar, spokesman of Nineveh's operations, told the Voices of Iraq (VOI) news agency that the Iraqi army had discovered a weapons cache in a house in central Mosul.
Abdul-Sattar said that armed forces conducted an inspection operation in the Farouq area of Mosul, where a large weapons cache had been found.
An Iraqi woman was injured when a bomb detonated in Darkazliya district, the Iraq's al-Iraqia television reported.
Sources said that the woman has been moved to a nearby hospital. (dpa)
