Agitation at Chakan plant will fade away soon: says Bajaj
The agitation at Bajaj Auto's premium motorcycle manufacturing Chakan facility will soon fade away as union leaders don't have a valid issue, Bajaj Auto MD Rajiv Bajaj said.
The ongoing agitation has forced the Chakan plant to remain closed for the last four days.
Mr. Bajaj said the union leaders were staging agitations without a valid, bona fide issue and that workers would soon return to work.
Speaking on the topic, he said, "As each day passes they will see that these people (union leaders) are carrying out an illegal activity and slowly I expect more and more people will come to work."
The union, the Vishwa Kalyan Kamgaar Sanghatana, has long been making attempts to mobilize the workers across the companies' four plants, viz. Akurdi, Chakan, Pantnagar and Waluj, in order to create a common platform. But, Mr. Bajaj argues that the union had been trying the idea for many years but it had not worked.
As many as 300 workers were working at the Chakan plant on Friday, and the strike has apparently not put any impact on the production of the Pulsar motorcycle. The Chakan plant also assembles the KTM 390 Duke motorcycle and the company is giving priority to exports. Currently, the company has no plans to shift production to another plant.
